ESOF 2012 "We must all do something about maths"
ESOF 2012 Talk (12 July at the National Convention Centre) - was an enormous success. Apologies to all those who had to stand through the hour-and-a-half session. And bigger apologies to all those turned away by staff because of overcrowding!
Thanks to the Speakers:
Eoin Gill - Why we must ensure society engages with maths.
Paul Nugent - Challenges and successes with school maths
Steve Humble - Taking maths outdoors.
Fiacre O'Cairbre - Telling the story of maths
Fernando Blasco - Magic of Maths and the Maths of Magic
Andrew Jeffrey - Maths Motivation
Maths in the City ran at the top of Grafton Street for 5 hours (13 July) and despite the rain crowds stayed engaged with all the activities, puzzles and magic demonstrations. Families from Clonmel and Killarney reported coming up to Dublin specially for Maths in the City! Many others were just surprised by the displays and eagerly joined in.
Thanks to all volunteers who made it possible - teachers, students, lecturers, and spouses, brothers, sisters, friends and kids! Thanks also to Dublin City Council for facilitating this important event.
