Maths and Sport

Maths and Sport’ with Prof John Barrow FRS, will look at how simple maths can give a better understanding of a variety of sports. Maths can clarify rules and strategy if you are a spectator and it can improve your performance if you are a competitor. Running, gymnastics, jumping, rowing, football, and tennis are some of the sports that will be explored, along with the unusual scoring systems that many sports have devised. Professor John Barrow, FRS, is Professor of Mathematical Sciences at Cambridge University and Director of the Millennium Mathematics Project, a programme to improve the teaching, learning and appreciation of mathematics and it applications.
